Artist’s Residence

Artists_Residence_Extension.jpg

A simple extension continues the exterior language of an existing Arts and Craft house. However, this modest exterior conceals a dramatic new vaulted oak framed living room.

The woodburner focal point, wooden floors and dark-grey walls create a cosy space with the benefit of natural top light from new rooflights.

The extension repeats the full-height slot windows found in the original house and utilises the same exterior materials with a slate roof and rendered walls.

The ridge of the extension roof fits comfortably beneath the original house eaves and looks as if it has always been there.

Internally the extension is linked to the existing house via fully glazed double doors, which offer a glimpse of the stunning barn room beyond.

The wooden floors visually link the extension to the original house and provide warmth to the interiors.

The simple king-post frames in the living room are taller than normal and in conjunction with the large straight internal oak braces, creates an elegant interior.
