Coastal Homes

Living by water is a life-affirming experience. Clear views, magical light and beautiful scenery.

We design houses to maximise the potential of waterside locations, whether that be in coastal locations, estuary houses or lake-side buildings. The flexibility of timber frame houses is particularly well-suited to provide large areas of glass and flowing interiors opening out onto expansive external spaces.

The house features floor to ceiling glazing to take in the 180degree sea views whilst also encompassing a 2m cantilevered ‘wing’ roof, birch glulam frame, and zinc clad walls.

The Beach House

Overlooking a sandy beach in one of the most sought after areas in the South Hams, this beautiful low slung house features floor to ceiling wrap-around glazing.

Eagle Rock

This breathtaking new house on the west coast of Scotland represents a stunning new development in our work.

The elliptical plan house blends into the high landscape with moss sedum roofs and lime-harled battered walls.

The house enjoys 20 mile panoramic views from all rooms across the Sound of Mull to Tobermory and beyond.

Sea View House

A beautiful coastal house in Cornwall featuring a contemporary Douglas fir frame, which has been painted white to create a 'seaside' feel.

The house is on a steeply sloping site that runs down to the sea and the house is arranged over numerous levels to make the most of the fantastic views.

Tigh Crom

An exciting curved contemporary oak framed house in the Highlands forming part of the Achabeag sustainable housing development.

This house curves to face the dramatic views of the sea opposite.

The house is constructed with an exposed green oak frame internally and hemp insulation filled wall and roof panels, with a moss sedum roof finish to the rear.

Tigh Na Mara

A revisit to this exciting upside-down house on the west coast of Scotland.

Roderick James developed a new design direction for the practice with this grid-formed timber framed house.

It has earth banking against ground floor masonry structure and first floor green oak frame with full height glazing affording dramatic views over the river.

Phoenix House

This split-level new house overlooks the River Dart in Devon and is set over four floors on a steeply sloping site in Dartmouth and has been designed to maximise the spectacular views with all major rooms enjoying the elevated position above the river.

The exposed laminated oak timber frame has been designed and engineered to the highest standard.
