Oakenhurst
Nestled on the banks of the River Fowey in Cornwall and with a history that can be traced back to at least 1844, the Oakenhurst boathouse enjoys breath-taking riverside views.
The lower floor retains a natural stone finish and arched openings to allow a boat into the undercroft whilst the upper floor has been completely renovated for modern day living.
A new structral green oak frame sits ontop of the lower floor stone walls to create a large open plan living area, which is open up to the rafters and also includes wrap around walls of glass - perfect for watching the birds and other wildlife found along the river.
The oak frame comprises many traditional features, including glazing studs, exposed floor joists and exposed common rafters.
Built into the rising river bank behind, the rear of the building is used for a snug, perfect to ‘get away’ from the weather when it blows in.
Within the pitch of the roof and located over the kitchen and snug, can be found a mezzanine floor accessed via a staircase and providing a double bedroom and ensuite bathroom, with the bedroom looking over the living space below.
